LAURA ÁNGEL

Created as a work of artistic exploration, this picture book offers a visual and narrative look into one of pop culture’s most iconic moments.

Using text sourced from Wikipedia and a curated selection of archival photography, this book captures the essence of the festival, its planning, setting, and the people who made it memorable. Many of the overheard quotes highlighted throughout the book shed light on its scale, the openness of its crowd and unexpected harmony despite the presence of drugs and mud.

The title, Woodstock: Peace, Love, Music and Mud, is borrowed from a Time Magazine article, nodding to the way the event has been immortalized in pop culture.
Rain and mud became a defining part of the experience and how the festival is remembered. The photographs captured an iconic moment in pop culture history, showing how people adapted to the circumstances and embraced the elements with joy and childlike excitement.

This project became an exercise in reframing a well-known cultural moment through a more personal lens.
